NEHUSU demands appointment of V-C

SHILLONG: The North-Eastern Hill University Students’ Union (NEHSU) has expressed concern over the delay in the appointment of a permanent Vice-Chancellor of the University which is spelling adversity in the overall functioning of the university for the last many months.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, NEHUSU expressed distress over the fact that the higher authorities have shown no interest in speeding up the appointment of the V-C, which in turn is affecting the student community at large.

The Union has also alleged that the delay in the appointment is because of a certain section trying to politicize the issue which is resulting in growing discontentment amongst the student community.

It can be brought to the fore that since the last VC left the office in June, 2013, the post has been lying vacant, NEHUSU said, adding that this has brought the working of the administrative and academic departments to a grinding halt.
