Advocacy workshop held

SHILLONG: The Union Ministry of Justice and Law held an advocacy workshop with the stakeholders in the State on the project access to justice for marginalized people at Main Secretariat on Wednesday.
While speaking to newsmen after the workshop, Union Ministry of Justice and Law joint secretary Praveen Garg said that the project focuses on strengthening access justice for the poor by developing strategies that address barriers to accessing justice in legal, social, economic and political domain.
Garg said that they have come to Meghalaya to have some kind of assessment how much the marginalized have an access to justice.
“The project would be for five years. During the period of the project, we would find out ways to provide justice to the marginalized people. We would try to assess the obstacles and the hurdles to ensure that no one is deprive of justice,” he said.
Garg also said that they would be holding legal aid clinic to reach to out the marginalized people.
The joint secretary also informed that the Government has launched similar project in Jammu & Kashmir and North East India.
