SHILLONG: The State’s dream of having an Information Technology (IT) Park is set to become a reality with the State Government deciding to appoint a consultant to prepare the details of the proposed IT Park.

Speaking to reporters here on Monday, IT Minister AL Hek said the department is calling for tenders for the appointment of consultant.

The proposed IT Park to come up at the New Shillong Township would provide necessary boost to the State Government’s aim of making Meghalaya an IT hub.

Earlier more than fifteen consultancies had responded to the Expression of Interest floated by the State Information Technology department.

According to Hek, the department would allot the tender to any firm only if they qualify under the tender norms after which the chosen firm(s) would be allotted the task of preparing the Detailed Project Report (DPR) and other details.

The proposed IT Park is expected to provide a new dimension to the State IT sector which is expected to benefit hundreds of youths from the State. The Government is proposing to set up a huge IT infrastructure in the Park where IT companies would establish their business and this would result in huge employment opportunities for the local youths.

It is learnt that the proposed IT Park would have call centres and workshops for IT related infrastructure to make Shillong an IT destination.

To make the proposal a reality, eighty acres of land has been allotted to the Information Technology department for construction of the IT Park.
