SHILLONG: The residents of Shillong have to bear four hours of power cuts at two intervals with the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Limited resorting to load shedding.

While the load shedding was officially made effective from February 2 in the whole of Shillong, for Garo Hills, load shedding would be effective from February 3 for three hours and for Ri Bhoi for two hours from Tuesday.

The load shedding will affect the students who are preparing for their board examinations. Moreover, with the rise in theft cases reported from parts of Shillong, the power cuts during the night hours have made the situation advantageous for the thieves and other anti-social elements.

With winter season yet to be over, the early implementation of power cuts have also put the old people especially the sick in difficulty. Hospitals are also affected by load shedding.
