NONGSTOIN: The United Democratic Party (UDP) has exuded confidence of clinching Shillong Lok Sabha seat as well as making a comeback in KHADC.

The party leaders expressed their optimism during a meeting held at the residence of JTS Thongni, a party candidate from Rambrai Jyrngam Constituency, near Nongstoin on Tuesday.

While slamming the State government for ‘underdevelopment in all fronts’ the UDP leaders said Mukul Sangma-led government has failed in maintaining peace and tranquility in the state.

Addressing the gathering, the party working president Paul Lyngdoh said the Congress-led government failed to resolve long-pending border dispute with Assam because it has been following the dictate of Delhi.

The party had earlier announced to field Paul Lyngdoh for Shillong Lok Sabha seat.

He also said that UDP was the only regional party in the state that strove for the rights of the indigenous people of the State.

Nongthymmai Legislator Dr.Jemino Mawthoh lambasted the Congress-led Government for its failure to contain militancy and influx of illegal migrants.

Besides Thongni, others spoke on the occasion included Rolan Mawsor, a candidate from Nongstoin district council constituency.
