M’laya qualify for T Ao semis

SHILLONG: Meghalaya and Mizoram booked their places in the semifinal round of the Dr T Ao Memorial Football Tournament in Aizawl on Friday with convincing victories over their respective opponents.
Meghalaya came through 5-1 over Tripura thanks to Samson Nongrum’s hat-trick (54th, 80th and 84th minutes) and goals from Timmy Ryngkhlem (22nd) and Ebormi Buam (58th). Tripura actually took the lead thanks to Banabir Kalai in the fifth minute, but were then outplayed.
Mizoram, meanwhile, went to the top of Group A with a 7-1 blitz over Nagaland.
The top two teams will play on Monday in a match that will decide who can lay final claim to the top spot in Group A.
