Dimapur traders’ body opposes selling of NSCN-IM calendar

Kohima: The East Dimapur Business Association (EDBA) Saturday said it was ‘very concerned’ that despite the ban based on the people’s mandate, NSCN (I-M) was ‘selling calendars in its jurisdiction.’ In a statement, EDBA Media Cell pointed out that the calendar, sold for rupees Rs. 200 was dropped at the shops and that the shopkeepers were ‘told to be ready with the money when they come’. EDBA said it failed to understand how calendar for the year 2014 was sold now when a month had already passed. ‘Such acts go in contravention of democratic principles and shows scant disregard for the will of the people’, EDBA stated. The association reminded East Dimapur Village Councils (VCs) of the ‘resolution taken at EDBA office to disallow any forms of taxation and selling calendars and to abide by peoples resolution passed during the Action Committee Against Unabated Taxation (ACAUT)’s rally.’ In this regard, EDBA urged VC’s to look into the matter. The EDBA further urged business owners ‘to submit all demand notes given by Naga Political Groups (undergrounds) at the office of EDBA as per the directives of ACAUT and not to give any money towards the sale of calendar’. Drawing the attention of the ‘concern authority’, EDBA said while issuing any statement ‘concerning public and businessmen’, it should not be viewed on ‘any individual or particularize members of any organization’.
