JOWAI: The 12-hour bandh on February 13 sponsored by five organisations based in Jaintia Hills and endorsed by the apex body of the traditional chiefs of East Jaintia Hills – the Synjuk Rangbah Shnong East Jaintia Hills – will go on as announced, a joint statement from the organisations said on Tuesday.

“We request the public, both of East Jaintia Hills and those from other North Eastern states of India, to co-operate with us and support us in this bandh on February 13 from 5am to 5 pm within the jurisdiction of East Jaintia Hills, as this is an issue that concerns the life and death of all travelers along the NH-44,” MH Dkhar, president of the AJYWO, said in the statement.

“We also request the public to support us in this bandh so that this agitation will reach the deaf ears and blind eyes of the Government of Meghalaya and India so that they might respond to our demand. We also request the public to co-operate with us to avoid any unwanted incident that might be perpetrated by opportunists, and if anything untoward occurs, we shall hold no responsibility of the same,” the statement added.
