MAWHATI: The newly-constituted Mawhati Constituency Political Committee (MCPC) kick started its campaign to garner support for its candidate and sitting MDC from Mawhati Otril Pamshong, with a public meeting at Mawhati play ground on Tuesday, ahead of the February 24 elections to the KHADC.

Over 400 people attended the meeting which was addressed by Mawhati MLA Julius Dorphang (Independent), MCPC candidate Otril Pamshong, MCPC president Anand Mangu, MCPC vice president BD Laloo, MCPC secretary Edmund Marten. The meeting was presided over by MCPC women wing acting president Martina Nongrang.

The highlight of the meeting included a grand reception for Shanti Jyrwa, ex-Mawhati Block Congress Committee women wing president and other Mawhati Congress primary unit members along with more than 100 Congress and UDP supporters, who switched their allegiance to MCPC and promised to render full support to Pamshong to ensure his win in the upcoming election.

Addressing the gathering, Dorphang said, “I am rendering my full support to Pamshong in the ensuing MDC election as he is a trustworthy, dependable and reliable candidate.”

It is noteworthy that Dorphang is indebted to Pamshong since the latter supported him in the 2013 Assembly polls and helped him to a victory.

Addressing the gathering, Pamshong empathically stated that he had created history in the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) by constructing over 75 toilets for churches. He also assured that he would work for strengthening the KHADC, welfare of the people and ensure protection of the land.
