Dipping mercury level freezes Pine City

SHILLONG: With the mercury level dipping down, the sale of charcoal has shot up as most people bought charcoal in large quantity expecting more rainfall in the days to come even as a popular cricket tournament which is being held in the city has also been affected due to prevailing weather conditions.

Though other states of the country have finally heaved a sigh of relief from the onslaught of chilling weather, yet many states in North East including Shillong is experiencing a cold weather accompanied by rain and strong wind.

The temperature in Shillong lie anything between 7 degrees to 14 degrees forcing people to head towards their home early, and the windy climate made the situation even worse. Many parts of Shillong are witnessing frequent fluctuation and disruption of electricity in addition to the load shedding.

The cyclonic circulation will persist over the North Eastern states for another 24 hours and move away thereafter and according to Indian Meteorological Department website rain or thundershower would occur at many places over North Eastern states during next 24 hours and decrease significantly thereafter.

The temperature in the city was increasing when suddenly, the weather became cold and damp with cold blistering winds since last few days and two days of rain was enough to make the resident of the pine city lazy.
