SHILLONG: A section of the residents of Kynjat Phutbal, Laban decided not to cast their votes in the KHADC election in protest for being attached to Laitumkhrah-Malki as part of the delimitation process allegedly without their knowledge.

Majority of the residents of the locality still believed that the area comes under Laban-Mawprem constituency, sources said.

Sources on Tuesday also informed that apart from the residents of the area including the members of the Dorbar Shnong, the UDP candidate from Laban-Mawprem constituency, Banri Wahlang who hails from the locality was also unaware of the fact that the locality had been attached to a new constituency.

Meanwhile, official sources informed that the Returning Officer had a meeting with the members of the Dorbar Shnong including the Rangbah Shnong on the issue on Sunday last in which the traditional body agreed to convince the residents of the locality to proceed with voting in this election.

However, only 95 out of the total 295 voters exercised their franchise on polling day.
