National Science Day celebrated

SHILLONG: Like every year, National Science Day was celebrated in the offices of Survey of India, Shillong and this year’s theme was ‘Fostering Scientific Temper’. The office of the North Eastern Zone; Meghalaya & Arunachal Pradesh GDC; Assam & Nagaland GDC and Tripura, Manipur & Mizoram GDC participated in the celebrations.
On the occasion of National Science Day, the part of the office was open for general public, especially for the School children. An exhibition was inaugurated and the officers and staff of Survey of India talked about the importance of having Scientific Temper in day to day life. Various types of maps were put on display in the exhibition and some State-of- the-art survey instrument like GPS, Total Station, Digital Level were also put on display showing the latest technology being used in the field of surveying and mapping.
A Map Quiz was also organized on the occasion and a short video on Antarctica Expedition, several photographs and a presentation on Survey of India were also shown on LCD projector.
About 300 children along with their teachers from various schools and some general public also visited Survey of India on the occasion.
