Editor,

The news item that AMPSTA would support tainted teachers is shocking to say the least. How can an organisation support support wrongdoers? It is a known fact that most of the govt. and deficit primary teachers are selected through a managing committee where nepotism rules the roost and where personal interviews and entrance tests are just an eyewash for pre selected candidates. Do these teachers have the desired qualification at the time of their appointment? Have they passed the D.EL.Ed, or B.Ed at their time of their appointment? Most of these teachers are oblivious of the fact that one has to pass the CTET(Central teachers eligibility test) or TET a requirement in addition to these degrees. But when one is standing on shaky ground it is obvious that one is bound to support these tainted teachers.

A suggestion

Editor,

It feels so good to see the positive development happening in the main junction of Laitumkhrah Police Point. Kudos to the local MLA for this initiative. The widening of this road is in good progress. I would like to make a suggestion to the concerned authority to plant a Banyan tree in this spot. The big tree would give natural beauty to the spot, providing food, fresh air and shelter to birds and the public in hot and rainy season.

Poll code comes into force

Editor,

The way people are cynical about the true character of politicians and their efficacy or will to serve the people it would not be surprising if NOTA gets majority votes ! What then ? Will there be a repoll ?

Ignorance of MPSC in recruitment procedure

Editor,

Apropos the article, “Delayed appointments boon to non eligible candidates. ” published in a daily news paper (not The Shillong Times), dated the 4th March 2014, certain clarifications are anticipated on the statements made by the Chairperson of the MPSC. In the report she was quoted as saying that the Government had directed the MPSC to reconsider the rejected applicants for the applied posts in Meghalaya Agricultural Service (Grade III). Such directions from the higher authority negate the autonomous recruitment procedure of the MPSC. Because the preconception is that, the MPSC counsels the Government on all matters relating to the methods of recruitment to various services and posts and not vice-versa. Is there any new regulation/amendment to reaccept the non eligible candidates after much scrutiny of applications? If so, it must have been notified in the public domain beforehand. Or was the delay in appointment a deliberate or spontaneous case? Accordingly, the previous senior batch of non eligible candidates in the year 2008 should have been accepted to favour them?

The unanimous decision to conduct an unprecedented written examination and hurriedly cancel it within a very short time portrays the irresponsible work of the MPSC when it already knew the number of applicants for the posts? If this present recruitment had been hastened such problems would not have been pending with the Commission. The lack of manpower and infrastructure as a justification for the interview demean the functioning of the MPSC in comparison to other State Commissions.

However, the delay in appointment was indeed a greater boon to the eligible quota candidates as well since gold medalists, post graduates and doctors of philosophy (Ph.D) degrees were acquired in the long run. Regretfully, the State premier recruiting body does not seem to acknowledge us as befitting for jobs in Meghalaya. The pursuit of the State Agriculture Department in nominating and making us sign the bond cum agreement as written is irrevocable in providing employment and demanding service against possible vacancies. The MPSC Chairperson should know that we have earned this quota tag with hard work taking into account the selection procedure (H.S.S.L.C percentile in order of merit) to study this professional course and we deserve the appointments too because we were the best at the forefront and studied at the top selected colleges. Indeed, the Government selected colleges were elite considering the stringent admission process unlike the colleges where non-quota candidates got admitted liberally with lesser percentile. This issue of discord has risen from the entry of non-quota candidates in the conventional system. We have no interest to augment the bias towards any party except for the quota tag in us which prompts us to oppose the above interview results wherein out of 49 vacancies, only 16 quota candidates were successful. Perhaps, the best way to resolve this issues contentious issue is to abolish the reservation system for students not only for Agriculture course but also for other courses such as medical, veterinary, engineering, etc. This would pave that way for a generalized recruitment procedure where only the best and the elite minds will compete for the jobs in Meghalaya.

Yours etc.,

Aggrieved Agriculture Quota Candidates
