SHILLONG: The illegal supply of fake Indian currency notes is going on in a large scale along the Indo-Bangla border. The BSF in the past one year has seized fake notes worth Rs 5.48 lakh which was smuggled from Bangladesh.
The issue of smuggling in of fake notes featured at the conference of Inspector General Border Security Force and Regional Commander Border Guards Bangladesh which concluded in Shillong on Sunday.
Speaking to media persons after the conference, Sudhir Kumar Srivastava, IG, BSF Assam Frontier said that the BGB told the BSF that the source of fake currency was not Bangladesh but it was being transited from some other places. But, he refused to name the country, neighbouring or otherwise.
The BGB commanders, on the other hand, raised the issue of smuggling of phensedyl to Bangladesh from India.
“We are taking measures against anything which is illegally supplied to them,” the IG BSF said while adding that the BSF has asked BGB to share the seizure data so that steps could be taken to stop it.
Srivastava informed that the BGB has also submitted a list of Bangladeshi criminals who played a key role in smuggling of phensedyl from India and has sought cooperation from India.
In the last one year, BSF has seized as many as 485,000 bottles of phensedyl which were being smuggled to Bangladesh, valued at Rs 3 crore. Women join BSF: The Meghalaya Frontier of Border Security Force (BSF) which was male dominated so far has now witnessed the entry of eleven women constables into the force.
Speaking to reporters, Anil Kumar, IG, BSF Meghalaya said that the number of Mahila constables will increase in the force in the coming years.
It is learnt that the eleven women constables are presently deployed in the headquarters and later they will be deployed in BOPs too. The Assam frontier of BSF however has around seventy Mahila constables.
