Cash, liquor seized in Arunachal ahead of Assembly polls

Itanagar: The flying squads and static surveillance teams deployed in Arunachal Pradesh to monitor and check the violation of model code of conduct, has seized a large amount of money, liquors, blankets and CGI sheets suspected to be meant for distribution among voters.
The teams seized cash over Rs seven lakh including, 289 bottles of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL), 280 bottles of beer, 20 litres of local wine, 491 pieces of blankets, 99 CGI sheets yesterday from various parts of the state, state nodal officer R K Sharma said here on Thursday.
A wine shop at Gohpur Tinali has been sealed and its license was cancelled for violating terms and conditions, city SP Seju P Kuruvilla said. The city police has also seized one 0.32 mm pistol, one revolver and 16 rounds of live ammunition from one person and a case has been registered against him in this connection, Kuruvilla said.
The team also seized 14 daos (sharp weapon) during checking, he said, adding that further, 2320 bottles of IMFL have also seized at Banderdewa during checking by a team of magistrate and police. Around 141 vehicles have been fined for violation of various sections of the MV Act and an amount of Rs 24,000 has been realised as fine from the violators,SP added.
EC’s initiative to curb flow of blackmoney
To curb the flow of blackmoney, 700 IRS officers would be deployed by the Election Commission as observers in ‘expenditure sensitive’ constituencies during the Lok Sabha polls as well as for elections to the state Legislative Assemblies of Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim and Odisha.
