SHILLONG: Taking the battle to the lion’s den, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate in Shillong Lok Sabha seat Amerington Kharshiing on Thursday said the ‘aam admi’ (common man) was not taken care of in Gujarat, whose Chief Minister was vying to become the Prime Minister.
Speaking to media persons after filing his nomination paper before the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, Amerington Kharshiing said, “I have been to Gujarat when I was an officer and I haven’t seen aam aadmi being really taken care of.”
He said that there were a lot of problems in Gujarat and farmers often were at the receiving end. “The will of the people will decide the Prime Minister of the country,” he said.
Replying to a query, he said that AAP would try to break the wall that existed between the people of the North East and the mainland while asserting that the party if voted to power would deal with instances of corruption with a firm hand.
Stating that AAP had a different look in people’s eyes, he said that he had a good chance of winning in Shillong as he was an ‘aam aadmi’ though he was contesting elections against veteran politicians of the state.
The AAP candidate was accompanied by leaders of the newly formed party, making a debut in the state politics.
Kharshiing is a retired IFS officer. He is locking horns with Congress candidate Vincent H Pala, Common People’s Front (CPF) nominee Rev PBM Basaiawmoit, UDP leader Paul Lyngdoh and BJP candidate Shibun Lyngdoh.

AAP candidate has Rs 20 thousand in hand

SHILLONG: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate Amerington Kharshiing has only twenty thousand rupees cash in hand while his three dependents have five thousand, three thousand and one thousand rupees respectively.
He however owns an agricultural land of ten acres whose approximate current market value is Rs fifty lakh and he owns another 16000 sq feet land whose approximate current market value is rupees five lakh
However, as per the affidavit, his second dependent also owns a land which is inherited whose approximate current market value is rupees fifty lakh and there is a lack of clarity whether his dependent has inherited the same land from Kharshiing.
Amerington Kharshiing has a grand total of liabilities worth Rs two lakh eleven thousand two hundred and fourteen in the form of loans from banks and other financial institutions.
