First batch of riot-displaced Rengma Nagas return home

Diphu: The first batch of the riot-displaced Rengma Naga people of eastern Karbi Anglong district of Assam, who took refugee in several relief camps since December 20 last, has moved out of the camp for their native villages mainly located in Chokihola region under Nilip development block.
The move has come as a result of combined initative of various Rengma Naga civil society bodies and the Karbi Anglong district administration.
According to Prasanta Buragohain, DC, Karbi Anglong, 542 inmates out of 1002 encamped in Silonijan High School moved out of the camp last Friday for their native villages.
‘Till now 787 Rengma people are taking shelter in three relief camps. We have demanded adequate security force to safeguard Rengma villages as long as necessary and transportation for safe return of our people to their home and ration for the victims who have lost the whole lot during violence for at least one year so that they can embark on new life,’ Phenpigah Rengma, president of Rengma Naga Students Union said.
