Wahingdoh open with victory

SHILLONG: Royal Wahingdoh FC got their Second Division I-League final round off to a good start by pipping United Sikkim 1-0 in Silchar on Sunday afternoon.

In the opening match of the first phase of the final round, Babatunde Badmus’ 28th minute goal gave the Royals the lead and the Shillong team held on with that scoreline right to the end.

Wahingdoh will next face Kolkatan team Bhawanipore FC on Tuesday at 5:30pm.

Bhawanipore also won their opening encounter on Sunday, beating fellow Kolkatans Kalighat Milan Sangha 2-1.

The other fixture on Tuesday will be between Hindustan FC and United Sikkim.

The final round has been split into two phases. Aizawl will play host to matches in the second phase.
