SHILLONG: A net savvy youngster, a businessmen, a legal expert, a matriculate and a theologian, the 10 candidates contesting in Shillong and Tura Lok Sabha seats in Meghalaya have varied educational qualifications and experiences in their respective fields.

Daryl Ch Momin, the Congress candidate from Tura Parliamentary seat, is by far the most educated contender in the state who is vying for the prestigious Lok Sabha seat of Meghalaya in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Daryl did his Master of Business (Professional) from Bond University, Australia, in 2011. Earlier, he did his B.com from St. Xavier’s College, under the University of Calcutta in 2008.

He is also a Bachelor in Business Administration from NIS Academy under Rajasthan Vidyapeeth University, Udaipur, in 2009.

Daryl who decided to enter into politics has done his class XII from Indian School Certificate Examination, Himalayan Academy Rajganj, West Bengal in 2005 and he did his class X Indian Certificate of Secondary Education Tura Public School, in 2003.

Daryl is a net savy and has accounts in several social networking websites such as Face Book, Twitter and Viber.

On the other hand, his main opponent and strongman of North East politics, Purno Sangma did his BA (Hons) from St Anthony’s College in 1968. He completed his MA and LLB from Dibrugarh University, Assam in 1972.

Among the candidates who are contesting for the Shillong seat, UDP nominee Paul Lyngdoh is a Master of Arts (English) from NEHU in 1998.

Sitting MP Vincent Pala did his Bachelor of Engineering from the University of North Bengal in 1990 and he passed out his HSLC from MBOSE in the year 1984.

Another contender Richard Shabong from CPI did his pre university from Guwahati University in 1971 whereas BJP candidate Shibun Lyngdoh is a Bachelor of Commerce from Shillong College under NEHU.

Independent candidate Rev PBM Basaiawmoit completed his ISC from Dr Graham’s Homes School, Kalimpong, West Bengal in 1968 and he did B.D at Union Biblical Seminary, Yavatmal, Maharashtra in 1975 followed by D.D Honoris Causa from the Academy of Ecumenical Indian Theology and Church Administration (AEITCA), Chennai, in 2009.

Another independent candidate Denis Siangshai is a Bachelor of Arts from Dispur College, Guwahati, in 1994 The lone female candidate Ivoryna Shylla is a Matriculate.
