Agartala: Hitting hard on the Marxist government in Tripura, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi said the Centre has been pumping record breaking money not for the welfare of CPM leaders and cadres but for the upliftment of common people.
While the other states have been marching ahead, Marxist ruled Tripura still remains laggard with the state registering upward trend in the BPL population (70percent) , he said an election rally at Karaimura in Sipahijala district on Tuesday. “The communism concept has gone in many countries and the Marxist concept has been changed in China. In India, Marxist suffered defeat in states like Kerala and West Bengal because of its decade-old policy”, he said.
“Marxism is relevant only in a small state like Tripura and the time has come to topple the government here to usher in a new dawn in the state”, appealed the voters.
In his brief speech, Rahul also mentioned people especially women are victimized of atrocities in the Marxist regime. “I know, you people are battling with every passing day and I will be with you in very step”.
Highlighting the UPA government’s achievement in the past ten years, party’s youth icon said programmes like MHNREGA, RTI, Food Security Act and Right to Education have been implemented in the country for welfare of common people.
“We believe India could not become super power unless and untill improvement in the socio economic condition of poor people living in villages. That’s why the UPA government has executed employment generation scheme- MGNREGA”, he said.
Noting that around 16 crore poor families have been got rid of social stigma- BPL because of the national flagship programme- MGNREGA, he said the UPA government has also been working for the welfare of indigenous people.
“The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has already been cleared a proposal empowering the Autonomous District Council (ADC) constituted udder the sixth schedule of the Constitution and it will be implemented if the Congress is voted to power”, he said.
On the empowerment of women, Rahul promised the Congress would push for reservation in Assembly and Lok Sabha if party is voted to power in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.
