TURA: In a shocking incident, a 50-year-old woman was raped by a young man in Mahendraganj constituency of South West Garo Hills district on Thursday. The accused has been arrested.
According to officials, the elderly woman was attacked and sexually assaulted by a 22-year-old man who left her severely injured and in a state of unconsciousness when a neighbor found her.
She was rushed to Nogorpara health centre and later forwarded to Ampati hospital before being taken to Tura for urgent surgery.
Police quickly swung into action and based on the information given by the victim arrested the accused, identified as Santosh Ch Sangma (22) who hailed from Aragittim village.
South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh, while lauding the district police for its prompt action in getting the accused arrested also informed that the district administration would take care of all the medical and surgical costs incurred by the victim.
