Silchar: BJP president Rajnath Singh on Sunday alleged that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his UPA government failed to act against the foreign mercenaries who dared to attack Indian Army jawans by entering into the territory and said the country is not secure at the hand of the present UPA government.
Addressing an election rally at Karimganj, a southern Assam town near Bangladesh border, the BJP president said sensing weaknesses of the Prime Minister and the government as a whole, foreign mercenaries have been attacking the country and killing army jawans by entering inside the boundary of India.
“In Kashmir, Pakistani army dared to enter into Indian territory and beheaded some of our jawans. Despite this, our PM abstained from reacting to such acts of the neighbouring country and kept mum on the incidents to much embarrassment to the spirit of sovereignty of the country and dignity of its people,” said Singh.
The BJP president said the Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government successfully conducted the series of five nuclear bomb test explosions at the Pokhran Test Range in 1998. This helped make India a world power.
Continuing his criticism against the Manmohan Singh government, the BJP national president said corruption to the tune of Rs 5.5 lakh crore is the biggest ‘achievement’ of UPA government over past ten years.
“All these and inaction by the UPA government triggered massive price rise during past one decade too,” he added.
He said Dr Singh has been an MP from Assam for past 23 years. Despite this, ongoing major national projects in the state including Lumding-Silchar broad gauge conversion, Silchar-Saurastra East-West corridor have been delayed and languishing for years. There is no good road in this region.
The BJP leader said: “Union government can pump thousands of crores of rupee in Rae Bareli, the constituency represented by Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Amethi, represented by Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, but the Prime Minister can’t grant Rs 28 crore for 14 Lok Sabha constituencies of Assam, the state represented by him for the fifth term now.
On the infiltration of foreign nationals into Assam from Bangladesh, the BJP president said no foreign national who came after March, 1971 will be allowed to stay in Assam and steps under provisions of existing law will be taken to deport them.
However, Singh said those came to India following oppression on the ground of religion on the other side of international border, will be granted shelter in India. (UNI)
