SMS service for voters launched

SHILLONG: Voters in the State can now know the location of their polling stations with a simple text message, thanks to an innovative SMS service “Polling at your fingertips” launched by the State Election Department on Monday.

To avail the SMS service voters have to type their EPIC number and send it to 98560-66666 and within a few minutes, details of electoral roll, timing and date of the election and name and address of the polling station is delivered to the mobile number.

Each SMS will be charged at Rs.3 the Election department informed, adding the service will prove to be of immense help to voters to locate their designated polling stations.

Speaking to media persons, CEO P. Naik informed that under the Systematic Voters’ Education And Electoral Participation (SVEEP) programme several star campaigners may visit Shillong to woo the voters to participate in the election process.

Naik also revealed that the department is going to organise the kite flying competition again on April 5 in Shillong, which will be followed by a laser beam show and music show at Khyndailad on April 7.
