SHILLONG: The Chief Justice of High Court of Meghalaya Justice PC Pant has pulled up the Government for trying to appease voters by way of effecting appointments under agriculture department.

While hearing the petition of aggrieved job applicants for various posts under the Agriculture department on Tuesday, Justice Pant questioned the Government lawyer as to why the Government went ahead with the move to effect appointments aiming to influence voters ahead of general election.

There is a section in the model code of conduct which prohibits appointments in Government and public undertakings which may have the effect of influencing the voters in favour of the party in power.
