JOWAI: In his election campaign in Jowai, Rev PBM Basaiawmoit, an Independent Candidate from Shillong Parliamentary seat claimed that many Congress representatives, both MLAs and MDCs are supporting him in the upcoming Lok Sabha election.

The former church minister of the KJP Synod Assembly who resigned as a Pastor and jumped into politics addressed an election campaign in Jowai and informed that the Hill State People Peoples’ Democratic Party (HSPDP) and the U Khun U Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movements (KHNAM) are supporting him beside several Congress representatives.

Basaiawmoit who spoke fluently in Pnar assured the people of Khasi and Jaintia Hills that if he was elected, he will raised the issues as per the interest of the people.

He spoke on the issue of Influx, inter-state and international border, deplorable condition of road connectivity and farmers related issues besides others.

Being a market day on Wednesday, a good number of people attended the public meeting. He (Basaiawmoit) urged the people of East and West Jaitnia Hills to elect him as their MP.

Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate, Armington Kharshiing, a retired IFS officer also held a meeting here in Iawmusiang.

Speaking at his election campaign, Kharshiing said, “The duty of an MP is to make law, it is not only to bring development schemes and construct roads”. “The AAP has prepared to introduce the Jan Lokpal in order to fight against corruption”, Kharshiing added.

The AAP candidate also said, people are against corruption but none of any political parties has taken up the issue so far.

“The BJP and the Congress are not supporting this Bill to become a law. If the AAP is in power, this bill will be introduced and become an Act so that the Country is free from corruption,” he added.
