Truckers abduct, rape mentally-ill woman in JH

JOWAI: A 26-year-old mentally-challenged woman was abducted from Lad-Jalyiah, East Jaintia Hills by three unidentified truck drivers who reportedly raped her on the way to Riat Puriang on Sunday, a delayed report said on Wednesday.

A source informed that after raping her, the accused abandoned her on the roadside.

“Mawryngkneng Police engaged in patrolling duty found the woman and took her to Mawryngkneng Police Station and later sent her for medical checkup which confirmed the rape,” the source said.

Following a complaint lodged by a relative of the victim, police have begun their investigation.

Minor sold to truck driver: In a shocking incident, a person allegedly attempted to rape his fourteen-year-old step-daughter and later sold the girl to a truck driver.

Rakhel K. Dewsaw, the mother of the victim, lodged a complaint at Nongstoin PS that on March 23 around 10 pm, her husband Skoland Jyrwa had attempted to rape his step-daughter in their residence at Mawjari village in West Khasi Hills and a day later the accused sold the girl to a truck driver identified as Bahhep Kharlyngdoh.
