SHILLONG: South West Khasi Hills police have registered a murder case against a group of unknown people who had beaten to death a rape-accused identified as Yunder Mawlein of Mawkyrwat.

Informing this on Friday, the district police chief D Sangma said Mawlein was beaten up by public at Mawkyrwat on April 1 for allegedly raping a minor. Some KSU members handed him over to police but he succumbed to his injuries at Shillong Civil Hospital.

Sangma said the father of the rape victim had lodged an FIR with the police saying his four-year-old daughter was raped by an ‘unknown person’.
