Young Cong candidate optimistic over youth turnout
TURA: The two candidates vying for the Tura seat, Purno Agitok Sangma of NPP and Daryl William Cheran Momin of Congress, cast their ballots in Tura with their respective families accompanying them to the polling stations.
Daryl was the first to head to the polling station at Tura Government College accompanied by his parents and younger brother shortly after 10am.
His opponent and nine-time MP from Tura PA Sangma arrived at the polling station at Walbakgre Lower Primary School after around 11am accompanied by his wife, daughter and sitting MP Agatha K Sangma, and sons James and Conrad K Sangma along with their respective families.
Speaking to media persons outside the polling station in Tura Government College, Daryl exuded confidence that the votes would go in his favour.
“More than 30 per cent of the voters are youth and I being a youth myself will prioritize on the uplift of the youth by creating greater opportunities for them. I will also seek what will be the best for Garo Hills and with the cooperation of our experienced elders we will work together for a better future of Garo Hills,” said Daryl and extended his best wishes to Sangma.
The senior Sangma when asked to comment on his opponent’s good luck wish said, “I also wished him a good luck for the future, not for this particular election because the need of the hour is different. I’m contesting this election because Garo Hills, which is facing serious law and order problem besides other issues, needs my service.”
