Boithang nominated for Player of the Year award

SHILLONG: Shillong Lajong FC announced on Thursday that their player Boithang Haokip has been nominated in the category of fans’ Player of the Year 2014 in the Football Players Association of India (FPAI) Awards, to be held on April 29 in Kolkata.

The annual award ceremony is organised by the FPAI and the sixth edition of the programme will be hosted in Kolkata for the third time.

Haokip, a free kick specialist who has produced a number of stunning goals for the Reds, has been nominated with players from other I-League clubs, such as Beikhokhei Beingaichho of Bengaluru FC, Karanjit Singh (Salgaocar), Arnab Mondal (East Bengal), Yusa Katsumi (Mohun Bagan) and Douhou Pierre (Pune FC).

There will be five categories in all this year – Best Young Player, Best Indian Player, Best Foreign Player, Best Coach and Fans Player of the Year.

Fans can vote for their choice on www.thefpai.net/awards_vote.php. Voting will close on April 27.
