SHILLONG: Three back-to-back elections and the prolonged model code of conduct have resulted in a slowdown of governance in the State leading to a derailed work culture.
Since many government staff were sent for election duty, there was very thin attendance in some of the State government departments even on Friday.
After the Assembly elections held in February 2013, the swearing in of the ministers were completed in March followed by the Assembly session extending till April.
The extended holiday starting from December third week to January 2014 has further affected the implementation of several projects as various works of State administration went on at a snail’s pace.
Moreover, the district council elections held in February this year and the election preparations prior to that also hampered progress of official works.
There was also Budget session of the Assembly last month which kept the legislators and officials busy for many days.
Then came the Lok Sabha polls which culminated on Wednesday, but the model code continuing till May 16 will further delay implementation of several development works.
