Minor assaulted for plucking flowers

SHILLONG: An eleven-year-old schoolgirl was badly assaulted by one Fredrick Kharsyntiew for plucking flowers from his compound at Lum Dorbar area, Upper Lumparing on Friday evening.
The accused reportedly kicked the girl after he found her plucking flowers from his garden.
Narrating the incident, the eleven-year-old girl who is a student of Sacred Heart School informed that the incident took place at around 3:20 PM while she was returning from school.
While on her way home, she said that she saw some flowers. “When I wanted to pluck a few flowers, the owner came out and started to beat me up,” she said adding, “I cried for help but he did not stop.”
The victim’s grandmother, Ethelma Sohtun said, “When I heard her cry, I rushed out, I could see my granddaughter being beaten.” “When I reached the spot and tried to stop, he (Kharsyntiew) abused me and assaulted as well,” she said.
When contacted, police informed that they have registered a case against the accused under various sections of the IPC. It may be mentioned that the HNPF took up the matter with the police.
