Dorbar Shnong suspects illegal boundary pillars erected with knowledge of Hima Mylliem

SHILLONG: Following the alleged failure of the Syiem of Mylliem to respond to the request of the Dorbar Shnong in ensuring that all boundary pillars erected by alleged encroachers on the land of the residents of Mawlai Mawdatbaki are removed, the people themselves swung into action on Saturday to dismantle the structures.

The land is a burial ground located at Mawlai Mawroh on the way to SAN-KER Hospital.

Along with the office bearers of Mawlai Mawdatbaki Dorbar Shnong led by Rangbah Shnong, B.R. Kharmujai and secretary, LS Lyngdoh Nongpyiur, the residents visited the place to find that boundary pillars were erected inside the Mawdatbaki area.

With documents and map which defined the boundary and ownership of the land in their possession, residents of Mawdatbaki removed the boundary pillars after verifying the size of the area.

The land measuring more than one-and-half acre is a burial ground only for residents of Mawlai Mawdatbaki.

According to the Rangbah Shnong, the plot was allotted to Mawlai Mawdatbaki by the former chief (Syiem) of Hima Mylliem, Francis Syiem on April 25, 1966.

“We have all documents and map to prove that the land belonged to Mawdatbaki,” Kharmujai said.

During the demolition of the illegal boundary pillars, no representative either from the office of Hima Mylliem or the people who erected the pillars was present on the spot.

Terming the erection of the boundary pillars on its land as an illegal act of encroachers, the Rangbah Shnong said, “I fail to understand how the Hima Mylliem could allow such people to encroach into the land.”

“We have not bypassed the Hima Mylliem on this matter,” the secretary of the Mawdatbaki Dorbar Shnong said.

Nongpyiur claimed that the executive committee of the Dorbar Shnong had submitted a letter to the Syiem of Hima Mylliem on April 7 informing him of the encroachment and urged the Hima to resolve the matter by April 12. The Dorbar Shnong suspects that the boundary pillars were erected inside the land of Mawdatbaki with the knowledge of the Hima Mylliem.
