SHILLONG: Yet again, a coal labourer in East Jaintia Hills was killed after a boulder fell on him.

According to a delayed report, on April 13 at around 10:30 am, while Pushpa Bh. Thapa (32) was working in a coal quarry at Wailong, Sutnga in East Jaintia Hills, one boulder fell over him. As a result, he sustained injuries and later died on the way to hospital.

In the context of frequent deaths in mines, the recent Judgment of National Green Tribunal banning rat hole mining in Jaintia Hills has come as a blessing as this will ensure the safety of workers engaged in the mining of coal in an unscientific manner.
