22 goals for Manipur at women’s nationals

SHILLONG: Manipur got off to a very one-sided start in the 20th Women’s National Championship by beating Chhattisgarh 22-0 in the opening matches of Group A on Tuesday.

However, Railways did even better, thrashing Uttar Pradesh 25-0.

Manipur will next play against UP on Thursday.

Five other North Eastern states are taking part in the tournament, which will conclude next month. Meghalaya and Nagaland are the only absentees from the region.

Mizoram lost to Orissa 3-0 on Monday in Group B and will face Goa, who beat Gujarat 12-0, on Wednesday.

Tripura have lost their first two games in Group C. They went down to Bihar 2-1 on Sunday before Kerala beat them 3-1 on Tuesday.

Sikkim, also in Group C, won their opener on Tuesday 1-0 over West Bengal. Both teams will next play on Thursday.

Arunachal Pradesh and Assam are in Group D and will face off on Wednesday.

Assam played their opener on Monday, drawing 0-0 with Tamil Nadu.
