JOWAI: The District Transport Officer (DTO), Jaintia Hills, on Tuesday threatened to take stern action against all those vehicles fitted with multi-tone horns, modified silencers and mercury bulbs (colour bulbs).

According to the DTO, C Khonglam, use of multi-tone horns and modified silencers and blasting of music with additional woofers lead to noise pollution and thereby create inconveniences for the public. He also added that coloured headlight bulbs cause problems for road users.

“We will shortly conduct a surprise checking and if any vehicle is found with multi-tone horns, modified silencers and modified headlight bulbs, we will take stern action against them,” he said.

The DTO further informed that not all local taxis plying in Jowai are allowed to use sound boxes as they occupied space in the car boot meant for passengers to keep their luggage.
