SHILLONG: An informal meeting of the MPCC held on Wednesday analysed the Lok Sabha polls, both for Shillong and Tura seats, and stressed the need to further strengthen the party.
The meeting assumes significance after the AICC had taken exception to the reports that the party was not united in projecting the sitting MP Vincent Pala during the election.
According to sources, the meeting chaired by the MPCC President DD Lapang and attended by senior party functionaries assessed the prospects of the party candidates in two seats.
The members present in the meeting also made reference to some party leaders, who did not campaign for the party candidate for the Shillong seat.
While the Chief Minister Mukul Sangma, Congress legislators and the Independent legislators supporting the Government in unison campaigned for Tura candidate Darly Momin, this was not the case with Shillong seat as Pala had not got the support of all the party legislators.
The reason some party leaders cite for lack of co- operation from them is that Pala had interfered in the Assembly elections held last year.
