WGH admin calls meet over Tura water crisis

TURA: With acute water crisis hitting Tura Town and its surrounding areas, the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner has issued a notification that a consultative meeting between different departmental Heads would be held to deliberate on the problem at hand.

The meeting which will be held at the DRDA Conference Hall on Friday will be attended by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), TMB, Superintending and Executive Engineers of PHE both from Tura Division and Tura Circle, Dakopgre, CEO of MePDCL, Secretary GHADC, District Urban Planner, Meghalaya Urban Affairs Unit, Tura, Executive Engineer, Water Resources Department, Tura, Divisional Officer, Soil & Water Conservation (T), Tura as well as senior citizens, senior government officers of concerned departments, NGOs, representatives of the Church and religious bodies, heads of educational Institutions, representatives of localities and area development committees, among others.

Appeal to keep streams clean: The Chief Executive Officer, Tura Municipal Board, has informed that due to acute scarcity of water some residents of Tura town are compelled to use water from streams for washing, bathing and other household activities.

He appealed to the communities of various localities to carry out cleaning drives of all the streams in their respective localities in the general interest of health and sanitation of all fellow citizens. He also made an appeal to all individual households, shops, business establishments, educational institutions and offices not to dump plastic, garbage and waste materials into the streams.
