SHILLONG: The CSWO has objected to the intention of the State Government to give land to cement Plants for afforestation.
In a statement issue here on Thursday, the CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing said that the pressure group will oppose the move to allow illegal acts to be made legal. The Government should in fact close down the cement plants and penalize them as they have clearly disregarded and polluted the environment and degraded the forests.
The Minister for Forest and Environment is a representative of the people and should take the consent of the people and not of those who fill their party coffers.
The Government seems to be helping the violators instead of booking them. Laws, Acts and Rules are clearly laid down and the Government should implement them, and should refrain from justifying the law breakers.
The CSWO leader said that they were shocked at the state of affairs of the Government where IAS officers who should be guiding these politicians to abide by the laws laid down, are allowing them to act and decide at their own whims and fancies bypassing, and violating also the Meghalaya Transfer of Land Regulation Act 1971.
“We face a great threat from influx of land grabbers, who dictate policies of the State by bribing the corrupt ministers and bureaucrats”, Kharshiing added.
