Allotment of Govt accommodation to self-styled activists

TURA: Questions have been raised over the role of the West Garo Hills deputy commissioner who gave accommodation in the Tura circuit house for the self-styled activists led by Jaynie Ningring N Sangma and her band of moral policing force that had perpetrated inhuman torture on twelve young girls merely on suspicion of being involved in a sex racket.
The self styled leader of the moral police force, Jaynie Ningring N Sangma, was allegedly allotted two rooms in the Tura Circuit House on Friday after she fled with her supporters following a raid on her house by family members of the abducted girls along with their supporters.
The deputy commissioner, Pravin Bakshi, has justified his decision with a recent statement to the media that he allotted the rooms after Jaynie Ningring complained of threats to her life.
Many have questioned the move by the deputy commissioner to give government accommodation to a NGO leader without going into the finer details of the threat.
When police arrived at the rented accommodation of Jaynie Ningring Sangma they found her with her husband and the house owner present while all the victimised girls had already fled the scene and taken shelter at Araimile police beat house.
She had then left the place with her husband in a white Bolero headed for the Circuit House, it is learnt.
The claims by Bakshi that the ‘counselling’ of the girls was being monitored by frequent visits of the media and the church has also been questioned by press persons given that none of the active journalists, barring one individual, was in constant touch with the activists over the issue.
“There are as many as five to six news organizations and close to a dozen journalists, including female press persons, active in the Garo Hills but we were not informed or asked to visit the girls during the so called ‘counselling’ sessions,” revealed media persons.
Meanwhile, West Garo Hills SP has said that the police investigation will probe all angles of the case.
