Outfit resents opposition to designated camp
SHILLONG: The ANVC-B has expressed resentment over opposition by various Khasi Hills based NGOs and political parties against the proposed setting up of a designated camp for the cadres of the outfit in the district.
In a statement issued here recently, Dogamdot Rangra R Marak, personal assistant to the ANVC-B ‘commander-in-chief’, claimed that the opposition by the various NGOs and political parties was to sabotage the outfit’s three-month-long peace initiative with the Meghalaya Government.
“We have never hurt the sentiments of the Khasi people and we have no intention of grabbing any portion of their land. We will give some more time for the HSPDP and its leader Ardent Basaiawmoit, KHNAM, KSU and the FKJGP to withdraw their stand on the issue,” he said and hoped that the issue would be resolved peacefully.
He appealed to the opposing groups to reconsider their stand against setting up of its camp if they wanted a peaceful solution to the problem.
While pointing out that the objective of forming the FKJGP in Meghalaya was to work for the welfare of the Khasis, Jaintias and Garos in the State without any discrimination between them, the ANVC-B leader questioned why the FKJGP Khasi Hills Zone was now opposing the setting up of its camp in the district. He also wondered why the FKJGP Garo Hills Zone was silent on the issue and wondered if the federation also did not want the peace settlement to come into place.
“The presence of the FKJGP in Garo Hills serves no purpose as of now. We are giving an ultimatum of one month for the dissolution of the FKJGP Garo Hills Zone,” he warned, adding that it would take strong action against FKJGP leaders if the federation was not dissolved.
Meanwhile, the outfit also appealed to other NGOs of Garo Hills to support their demand for a designated camp in Khasi Hills and warned that it would no more even consider coming in for a peace settlement if the failed to do so.
