SHILLONG: An FIR was lodged with East Khasi Hills SP M. Kharkrang regarding the denial of PDS items to several people of Sohiong.

In the FIR filed before the police on Wednesday, CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing alleged that one Omiga Mawlong of Nongmadan, having AAY card bearing No 54753, and D Mylliem, of Nongmadan, having BPL card bearing No 136158, under Sohiong constituency were deprived of their benefits of the AAY and BPL Schemes with regards to the PDS which is a Centrally provided scheme to help the poor.

These families were denied PDS from June 28, 2013 to July 25, 2013, on the reason given by Brad Nongrum, the headman of Nongmadan, under Sohiong constituency, that these families should apologize before local legislator and Minister HDR Lyngdoh for not supporting him or voting for him, and only then, the essential commodities will be distributed.

The FIR also stressed that there should be inquiry against the legislator for his role in the matter.

When contacted, Lyngdoh said over phone from Kolkata that he was not aware of the allegations.

The FIR further said that in the ration cards, the amount and quantity of PDS is never mentioned and this gives a chance to the dealers to connive with some headmen to take away the allotted quota of PDS meant for the poor under the scheme.

“It is also clear from the ration cards that the wheat has not been distributed for years and a thorough investigation should be carried out, to find, if the wholesaler has supplied the wheat to the dealer Tining Mylliem Umlong, of Nongmadan”, the FIR said.
