Kohima: The National Bamboo Mission meet on ‘Baseline survey and geo referencing’ for North East states began on Wednesday at conference hall of Nagaland bamboo research center, 6th mile in Dimapur.
According to an official release on Thursday, the meet is organized by National Bamboo Mission (NBM) and coordinated by Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency (NBDA). Chairing the session Deputy Director General (DDG) Delhi, Sanjay Kumar said the main purpose of interaction among different mission directors was to focus on the entire data collection work for baseline survey in their states.
Kumar said ‘unless and until we have complete information data we cannot go further’ and requested all missions to submit total numbers of plants to mission directors. He emphasized on technology that play important role in different interventions as Information Communication Technology (ICT), remote sensing to assess the total area in plantation.
He said interventions envisage for achieving the desired goals would be varied and regionally differentiated with focus on bamboo crops to be developed in clusters by deploying modern and hi-tech interventions and duly ensuring. Kumar said northeast has lots of potential in the field of crafting. However, he said product specification should be made available al while adding that though Nagaland crafts are good it has no market. Mission Director NBDA Imkonglemba Ao said the meeting main objective was for sustainable development and utilization of scientific technology of bamboo resources in remote sensing where eight states would be working on. He also said in order to popularize the market on various bamboo products throughout the country entrepreneurs from each state would be chosen to participate in National Trade Fairs’. (UNI)
