SHILLONG: Martin Luther Christian University reached out to the community by conducting a Health and Awareness Camp at Mawpun village, Ri-bhoi District on Saturday. This was part of the university’s style of serving the needy population and giving the students a chance to interface with the community.
Altogether, 260 people from MLCU’s adopted village Mawpun turned out to benefit from this health camp. This reach out is a collaborative effort between the Department of Allied Health Sciences, Counselling Psychology and Social Work with the backing of the National Service Scheme, NSS Unit . Dr. Paul Dhar from Nazareth Hospital helped in handling more difficult cases.
Village Head, Kham Kharkongor said, “This health camp has really benefitted our villages because it was more than just diagnosis and medicines – the interactive awareness sessions had helped people especially children”
A typical health camp of MLCU is a seven-fold exercise that includes physical and vital sign examination, assessment of nutritional status, dietary counselling, estimation of haemoglobin level, eye screening, medical consultation and dispensing of medicines.
Mawpun is MLCU’s field village and it is here, that many humble development activities have been initiated.
