SHILLONG: The State Government is open to the idea of holding talks with any group willing to come to the negotiation table so as to ensure peace in the trouble-torn western region of the State.
With militancy in Garo Hills showing no signs of a hiatus, and the HNLC attempting resurgence with some heavyweight recruitment in recent times, including former KSU leader Frederick Kharmawphlang and others, the Government is now willing to sit for talks with any outfit that is ready to sit for negotiations, a highly-placed source in the Government said on Sunday.
“We are willing to talk with anyone who approaches us since we want peace in Meghalaya,” the official said.
To achieve peace in Garo Hills, the State Government is also keen to start negotiations with the GNLA, the official informed, adding that the Government was working on the modalities of peace talks with the banned outfit.
