SHILLONG: The GNLA has slammed West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Pravin Bakshi for denial of post-mortem report to the family of Balsan Marak, who died in judicial custody.

The Deputy Commissioner had said that he needed an order from the higher ups to release the post mortem report.

Reacting to this, political affairs secretary of GNLA Bikdot Nikjang Marak wanted to know whether Bakshi was acting as “DC (executive) or DC (judicial)” when he said that he was only awaiting clearance from higher ups and he would have issued post mortem report had he conducted it himself.

“Is it mandatory that he required clearance from higher ups to issue post mortem report to the parents of victims?,” the GNLA asked.

The GNLA political secretary also said that Bakshi’s stand indicates that his mind is ‘unstable and imbalanced”.

While stating that the DC was acting as an opponent, the GNLA leader wanted to know “why is he interested in defending SP Mukesh.”

“We would watch and if necessary declare a bandh soon,” the GNLA leader said, adding that the outfit is in no hurry and will wait for the decision of the NGOs and the public.

According to the GNLA leader, Chief Minister Mukul Sangma’s outright rejection of the demand for judicial inquiry by MLA Rophul Marak was “shocking.”

“Why can’t Rophul resign and set a moral example?” the GNLA asked.
