SHILLONG: The Parliam-entary Secretary in the Congress-led MUA-II Government Rophul Marak said that being in Government and fighting to get justice for Balsan Sangma, the victim of custodial death, is more important than resigning from Government.

The victim is the cousin brother of Rophul Marak, Independent legislator representing Rongara-Siju constituency.

Reacting to the demand of GNLA that Rophul should resign from Government in protest against the custodial death of Balsan, Rophul said, “If my resignation from the Government will bring justice to my brother, I am ready to do that, but can they (GNLA) give assurance that my resignation will help to get justice to the victim?”.

According to Rophul, being in the Government, he can pursue Balsan’s case effectively.

“I also appeal to the pressure groups not to make it a political issue”, Rophul added.
