SHILLONG: Come rainy season and drains of Shillong start flooding which only leads to clogging of water much to the dislike of every resident.
The over clogging of drains also damages the black topping of newly constructed roads across the city.
Speaking to The Shillong Times on the matter, Urban Affairs Ampareen Lyngdoh admitted that it takes time for the department to unclog the drains thus delaying the process of addressing the situation.
According to Lyngdoh, the MLAs need to focus on these agenda and the schemes must have special provisions for the construction of drains.
She also stated that the Government needs to pump in more funds in the MLA schemes so that drainage works can also be taken up in a larger way.
Admitting that it is a mammoth task to revamp the entire drainage system of Shillong, Lyngdoh stated that there lies a need for coordinated efforts between the department, residents and MLA of the concerned locality to overcome this problem.
