TURA: Three days after the brutal murder of their mother at the hands of suspected GNLA militants in Raja Ronggat village of Chokpot, South Garo Hills police have moved the affected family to another location to prevent possible retaliation from the ultras.
“There was possibility of reprisal by the GNLA on the affected family so we decided to move them to a safer location,” said district police chief Lakador Syiem.
The three young daughters and a son along with their father and the grandmother were moved out of Raja Ronggat on Friday by the security forces.
“There were inputs that the family may be attacked due to the fact that they reported the matter to the police. We needed to ensure they were safe. For security reasons their location is being kept secret”, he added.
Meanwhile, combing operations continue in the region to flush out those militants who were involved in the gruesome killing.
Meanwhile, unconfirmed reports indicate the disappearance of three persons in remote Emangre reserve forest of Siju in remote South Garo Hills.
“We have got unconfirmed reports about three persons missing in Emangre but we are trying to confirm that. As of now it is only rumours,” said SP Syiem.
In the meantime, police in West Garo Hills are on the lookout for the driver and handyman of a JCB machine who were reportedly kidnapped at gunpoint by Garo militants from Rengsangre village under Asananggre, near Tura, recently.
GNLA leader Baichung Momin is believed to have been instrumental in the abduction of the duo who worked for a well known businessman in the area.
