New Delhi:  Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Wednesday asked the government to get back Indian land “under occupancy of China and Pakistan”, and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to inform parliament about the discussions with his Pakistani counterpart.
“I want to tell the government we will support you if you bring back the Indian land under the occupancy of China and Pakistan. When will you get Kashmir back? Did you discuss about it when (Pakistan Prime Minister) Nawaz Sharif came here,” Mulayam Singh said while participating in a debate on the motion of thanks on the president’s address.
“The prime minister should inform parliament what did he discuss with Nawaz Sharif,” said the Samajwadi Party chief.
He accused the elected BJP leaders of behaving arrogantly, and said: “We have also seen the mandate of 1971, and 1984… Don’t forget what happened in 1977 and 1989.”
The Congress led by Indira Gandhi won 352 Lok Sabha seats in 1971 polls, and in the post-Emergency elections of 1977 the figure came down to 189 seats, Indira Gandhi herself losing her Rae Bareli seat.
The 1984 elections, after the assassination of Indira Gandhi, saw the Congress getting 414 Lok Sabha seats under the leadership of Rajiv Gandhi. However, the 1989 elections saw a non-Congress coalition government led by V.P. Singh take office.
Mulayam  also said the government must give a deadline for reducing inflation and dealing with unemployment. (IANS)
