Govt to increase corpus fund

SHILLONG: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma said that the Government is contemplating to increase the corpus fund under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee ACT (MGNREGS) to ensure the timely disbursement of wages to the beneficiaries under this scheme.

“The amount which has been put in the corpus fund is not enough to ensure there is no delay in the payment of the wages. The Government had created this corpus fund following several complaints about the delay in the release of the wages due to non-release of funds by the Ministry concerned,” Dr Sangma said during the general discussion on budget in the Assembly on Wednesday.

He further said that the Government has decided increase the allocation from the existing Rs 50 lakh to Rs 1 crore for converting of the kutcha road, constructed under the MNGRES, into all-weather road.
